Nyegamehe Evangelist, the wife to Uganda's Billionaire Apollo Nyegamehe prominently known as Aponye says that his husband died while talking on the phone with her.

“We were talking on the phone as he moved toward Itojo, the juncture of the accident. I informed him to please travel safely and he responded that they would move well, then the phone went off. I phoned again promptly after but it was busy. I phoned again and it was busy. Then a call came through and I was informed that my spouse had passed away.” Nyegamehe noted.

It should be noted that Nyegamehe disclosed on Sunday evening at the vigil in their residence in Lubowa, 8 km south of Kampala, off Entebbe Road.

She talked glowingly of a youthful Aponye who constructed his own home at the age of 15 and wedded her at age 20 in 1978. The boy that would come to be a billionaire was intelligent from an extremely young age, having begun his work life as a wheelbarrow pusher in Kabale town in the 70s and prospered to become the billionaire we have known till his demise.

Nyegamehe, like everyone else that spoke at the vigil, applauded Aponye for being an extremely humble man with very few words, who worked his way from the ground to an area beyond the sky.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who talked on behalf of all colleagues of the late, noted that Aponye’s life was impactful and far-reaching.

“Aponye's life is a textbook. If you choose any angle of his life, you will be astonished by how far-reaching it can be. In the region of politics, he was a humble person, but he was able to proceed to mountains without producing any noise, without talking,” he noted.

Meanwhile, prominent persons in attendance at the vigil were Dr. Rugunda, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, former Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao, and businessman Hajj Omar Mandela.
